Great article. I do have to disagree with you on one point. In grace and giving the benefit of the doubt, we want to believe that money and fame “get to people” who otherwise start with good intentions. My experience has been that money and fame slowly release them from accountability and allow people the freedom to more fully reveal who they’ve always been. They out themselves. If we look closely enough, in so many of these stories, the signs of deception and pride and use of the church/faith for their own ends were there in small ways from the beginning.
